My name is Ana Catarina and I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I love my city and my country and they're so photogenic that this explains why they're usually the background of my pictures.
My relationship with photography started in 2008. At that time, I just wanted to know how to take better photos in my holidays. So I started with a basic photography course and then couldn't stop. Actually, I didn't know which way to follow in Photography, so, in 2013 I did a Workshop with one of the best surf photographers in Brazil, called Sebastian Rojas. It was my first contact with surf photography and I fell in love with it! It was the perfect way to put together nature, ocean, sun, photography and sports, the things I like most in my life. I also remember, between a set and other, that I started to float and think: thank God for this moment, maybe I've found joy and myself. It’s a wonderful feeling when you can take pictures in water, specially the surf ones. Watch the surfers so close it’s an amazing way to participate and vibrate when they go out of a barrel or come back from an aerial. After this weekend, I immediately bought my first housing and started as a water photographer!
I call myself a “water photographer” because, in my opinion, there are a lot of possibilities when shooting in the water. You can do some lifestyle pictures, some landscapes (that I call ‘seascapes’), surf, water sports, underwater etc. But one of the things that I like the most is to play with my camera speed and do what I call ‘Aqua Painting’. It’s a way to paint with the camera and sometimes the pictures really look like a painting. I really enjoy arts and its history! By the way, I'm always studying photography and I like very much to know and learn new techniques.
Shooting in the water is a pleasure that everyone should try. Sometimes we can take the ocean for those who live far from the coast. Some people have never been to the seaside. That’s why photography is so beautiful: we can take any moment that we find special and share with those we love or just try to show our experience.
So, welcome to my website and portfolio! Here you’ll find some sports pictures, seascapes, some photos emphasising the relationship between nature and humans and my authorial works too. I hope you can feel the joy and the pleasure I feel when I’m in contact with the sea.
